Cross-check against the Bexar County Tax Office

Bexar County lists standard registration totals of $85.50 (6,000 lb or less), $88.75 (6,001–10,000 lb) and $64.75 (motorcycle). Our line items add up to exactly those totals before the emissions fee: $50.75 + $1 + $21.50 + $7.50 + $4.75 = $85.50. The county page does not itemize them, so the split shown here is our reconstruction from the TxDMV figures.

Unclear in the official sources: TxDMV's bulletin says Bexar owners pay $2.75 to the state at registration. TCEQ's program highlights page lists a $2.50 state administration fee. We use $2.75 because TxDMV collects the fee and its bulletin is the newest (Sept 14, 2026). Your renewal notice shows the exact amount. See TxDMV #003-26 and TCEQ highlights.

Not included in the estimate

Stations may charge up to $18.50 for the test. Commercial vehicles: DPS lists up to $40.00 for the commercial inspection (DPS Cost of Inspection).
